Location and Equipment

The residential building where our apartment is located is on the Mediterranean coast in the town of Dehesa de Campoamor, at Calle Rambla de Nacimiento 5 - map.

This gated area offers a swimming pool, tennis court, and a padel court exclusively for residents, with plenty of mature trees and shaded areas.
The apartment includes a reserved parking space (No. 186).

The apartment is in building number 5, on the 4th floor, marked with the letter D.
It was renovated in 2023, the furniture is new, and since we furnished it primarily for ourselves and our own comfort, quality mattresses were our priority. It is suitable for 4 people.

The living room includes a sofa, an armchair, and a dining table with four chairs.

Transport to Alicante

The nearest airport is in Alicante (ALC). Direct flights from Prague (PRG) are operated by Eurowings and EasyJet, or from Pardubice (PED) by Ryanair.

Transport from the Airport

BUS

Direct bus from the airport to Campoamor
Operates 3 times a day, on Saturdays 2 times, and on Sundays only once a day. Timetable available here - BusBam.
(Legend: L-S = Monday-Saturday; DF = Sundays and public holidays; DIARI = daily).

NOTICE: For the return journey (i.e. from Campoamor), always arrive at the bus stop at least 20 minutes earlier. In Spain, we repeatedly experienced that when the bus, which started elsewhere, arrived earlier, it did not wait for the scheduled departure time but continued immediately, sometimes 15 to 20 minutes earlier.

Bus with transfer in Torrevieja
From Alicante airport to Torrevieja, buses operate from 8:00 to 21:00, approximately every hour. You can find exact connections here (select date and route).
In Torrevieja, change to the bus to Campoamor. Timetable available here (enter Torrevieja bus and Campoamor).
The bus journey with a transfer costs approximately 8.50€ per person.

Campoamor bus stop - 750m from the apartment here.

CAR RENTAL

There are many rental companies in the area offering the option to pick up the car at the airport and return it there as well. International companies are usually more expensive than local ones. We have personal experience with Victoria Cars and the car was perfectly fine.

Nature and Beaches

MAR MENOR

Everything here revolves around Mar Menor. It is a unique place in terms of natural wealth, beaches, and swimming conditions, both within Spain and along the entire Mediterranean coast. The coastline of the Mar Menor lagoon is mostly very calm and contains a higher concentration of salt and minerals than any other sea in Europe, which is why it is sometimes called the Spanish Dead Sea.

SALINAS DE SAN PEDRO and PLAYA LA LLANA

The natural park Salinas de San Pedro del Pinatar can be accessed either from the town of El Mojón just along the beach or from Lo Pagan.
The second option initially follows the promenade and passes the mud baths, and the second part from Molino de La Calcetera continues along a natural path. On this route, you have the salt flats on one side and the Mar Menor on the other. More about the healing mud baths in the nearby ponds can be found in the leaflet here.

Whichever option you choose, it is definitely worth walking to the end of the beach Playa Llana, where we twice, always in the evening near sunset, observed flamingos in the shallow sea close to the beach. (This was at the beginning of spring, so the area was deserted. We do not know how it is during the tourist season.)

CABEZO DE LA FUENTE

If you want to see Mar Menor from above, the view from Cabezo de la Fuente is definitely worth it. Additionally, you can see the other side, where there are small natural beaches that are not accessible by car, so hopefully they won't be overcrowded even during the season. In March, we were completely alone there.
However, be careful as there is hardly any shade here, only a little at the top of the hill, but none on the way to the beaches, so either go early in the morning or when it is cloudy. We managed to get sunburned here already at the beginning of March ;-).

Option for a circular route or just to the viewpoint and the beach, and then return the same way.

Playa Parreňo and Playa Negrete.

LA MANGA

Endlessly long beaches on both sides – this is the 21 km long sandbar that separates the Mediterranean Sea from the Mar Menor. It is a very popular tourist destination, which is why there are many hotels and apartments, and it is about an hour’s drive from us. On the other hand, it is a very unique place. In some areas, the sandbar is so narrow that there is only enough space for a road between the beaches and the sea.

LA MATA

Another very long beach. Unlike La Manga, however, it is completely outside urban areas. If you start from the southern edge of the town La Mata, you can walk along the sandy beach for about 6 km to Guardamar del Segura. On one side, the sea with a very gentle entry into the water and on the other, sandy dunes with typical semi-desert vegetation.

EL HONDO BIRD RESERVE

If you get up early and arrive here in the morning before the crowds of tourists with noisy children, this reserve is definitely worth visiting. From the observation points, you can see many flamingos, cormorants, and other interesting water birds in action. However, make sure to bring insect repellent and/or wear long clothing. Parking and more information in Spanish (more info including video) and in English (shortened version).

SNORKELLING

When the sand on the bottom is not stirred up by the waves, it is nice to snorkel right “behind the house” on the nearby beach around these two smaller rocks – first rock and second rock.
If you want to combine snorkelling with a trip to the cape and lighthouse Cabo de Palos, we enjoyed snorkelling several times at the small beach Cala Roja.

TABARCA ISLAND

A combination of an old fortress, wild nature, beautiful beaches with the possibility of snorkelling, but also practically no shade. If you are tempted by a boat trip, we recommend it. On the island, you won’t find a single car. Boat from Santa Pola, return ticket purchased online (you only select the day and do not need to specify the time in advance) in September 2023 for €10 – Isla Tabarca boat ticket.

PICO ROLDÁN VIEWPOINT

An easy trip with beautiful views of the sea and cliffs from Pico Roldán right next to Cartagena (it can be combined)..

Cities and Attractions

As we are not really into city tourism, there won't be many of these types of tips, and I am only listing the few places we have personally visited so far.

Responsive image

ALICANTE

Mercat Central d'Alacant – a large central market, especially appealing to gourmets. Anyone who has ever visited markets...

Responsive image

ELCHE

Much smaller town than Alicante, but close to the airport located between these two cities.

Palm Grove in Elche - it is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, so it should be something special, but personally I experienced it more like a large park with palm trees instead of deciduous trees. It is definitely not a whole-day trip. Elche itself has a rather nice but quite small centre, and apart from the palm grove and a large cathedral, which can be found in every Spanish city, we have not discovered anything particularly extraordinary yet. Therefore, I recommend combining it with a trip to or from the airport.

CARTAGENA

The modern Spanish Carthage, which is said to always feel warm even when it is cold everywhere else. Our experience confirms this. Although we deliberately avoid Spain and other Mediterranean locations during high season, when we visited at the beginning of April, while it was still rather cold elsewhere, it was as hot as midsummer in our country.

The amphitheatre from the Roman period is worth seeing.

Free parking in Cartagena is available here or just nearby another option.

VALENCIA and the largest aquarium in Europe

Valencia is the third largest city in Spain, yet it is not as crowded as Madrid or Barcelona. There are beautiful historical monuments and ultra-modern buildings. About 2.5 hours by car from us.

Not only children but also most adults will certainly be impressed by the largest oceanographic museum in Europe. It is advisable to buy tickets in advance. The car park is directly beneath the building, and if you ask for a parking ticket before leaving the Oceanográfico, you will receive a discount and full-day parking will cost 8 euros.

BENIDORM and a large water park

We personally have not visited this large water park, but we received good recommendations for it and it is certainly a pleasant attraction on hot summer days.

About 1.5 hours by car from us.

Food and Shopping

SUPER HYPER...

Consum near the apartment - a very well-stocked supermarket, including fresh fish, just 500m from the house. Open Monday to Saturday from 9:00 to 21:30. On Sundays, most shops in Spain are closed.

La Zenia - a typical temple of consumerism in Spanish style, meaning with an open roof, so at least some fresh air.

FARMERS' MARKETS

Markets with vegetables, fruits, olives and other local products are worth visiting here. They rotate throughout the week, so they take place in a different town each day, usually in the mornings only.

From our apartment, the closest is the market in Cabo Roig (within walking distance). It takes place every Thursday from 8am to 2pm.

We personally visited the market in Rojales, which is also every Thursday. An incredible selection of local vegetables and giant-sized fruit at great prices.

Many people also go to the nearest larger town to the market in Torrevieja, which is held on Fridays.

RESTAURANTS

We will gradually add recommendations for restaurants where we personally enjoyed good food.

King of Tandori - an Indian restaurant near the apartment, where we always enjoyed the food very much. As true Beránci (Lambs), we cannibalistically recommend everything with lamb – it is truly excellent.
